NEIGHBORHOOD CONSERVATION IN THE LUCE
Neighborhood Conservation
The highest priority of the Land Use and Circulation Element is the preservation of the City's residential neighborhoods. On June 2nd, nearly 100 residents came together to discuss Neighborhood Conservation tools and strategies [DOWNLOAD the presentation]. If you would like to comment on what attributes make your neighborhood a great place to live, please email us! A summary of comments, ideas and suggestions generated at the workshop will be available soon.

LUCE UPDATE PRESENTED TO CITY COUNCIL

On May 12th, staff presented an update on the LUCE process to the City Council. The presentation included information on the status of the project and expected milestones, as well as updates on the EXPO Light Rail, the Downtown and Civic Center planning effort, Neighborhood Conservation, and the much anticipated traffic model. PREPARATION OF THE LUCE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT REPORT (EIR) IS NOW UNDERWAY

In accordance with state requirements, a public scoping meeting was held on May 18, 2009, at 7:00 p.m., at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. The public comment period was April 24-May 26 and a draft EIR is anticipated for release in Fall 2009 [DOWNLOAD the EIR Scoping presentation]

Exposition Light Rail

EXPOSITION LIGHT RAIL BOARD IN FAVOR OF COLORADO ALIGNMENT

[Santa Monica Daily Press] DOWNTOWN L.A.-Officials with the Exposition Construction Authority on Thursday got the green light from its board of directors to continue pursuing Colorado Avenue as the route the light rail will take through Santa Monica.

The authority will now spend the next several months responding to the roughly 3,000 pieces of communications it received during the draft environmental impact report's public comment period, which ended March 27.

April 2nd Workshop FINAL LUCE PRESENTATION BRIDGES HOUSING, ECONOMIC & ENVIRONMENTAL POLICIES FOR CITY'S LONG TERM FUTURE

The community workshop on April 2nd wrapped up the public outreach series on the development of the Land use and Circulation element (LUCE) update. Over 100 residents, members of the business community, and others participated in this event that included economic and policy analysis on the proposals for future modifications to the City's land use districts and transportation strategy. View the LUCE Policy and Decision Making Framework to see how it all comes together to preserve and protect our neighborhoods, while enhancing the quality of Santa Monica.

Transportation Workshop Draws Big Crowds, Big ideas from Community

On Saturday, March 1, over 100 Santa Monicans commented on the Circulation Element's plans, programs and policies in a open house format that put them in direct contact with staff and the long-term strategies to improve transportation and mobility in our city.
